Karam Puja, one of the most popular festival is related to the harvest and a tribute to the Karam tree. This tree symbolizes fertility, prosperity, and everything that is auspicious. The Karam festival is celebrated usually on Bhado Ekadashi 11th day of the bright full moon ( Purnima ) of the month of Bhado ( August - September ). The Karam tree scientifically named Nauclea Parvifolia is the centre of proceedings of the festival. The preparations for the Karam festival begin around ten or twelve day before the festival. Nine type of seeds planted in basket such as rice, wheat, corn, etc which is called Jawa. Girls take care of these seeds for 7-9 days. During the festival, the branch of Karam tree is carried by Karam dancers accompanied  by singing and dancing. Smeared with milk and rice beer, this branch is raised in the middle of the spot where the group performs the dance. Karam is the festival of sisterhood, friendship and cultural unity. The festival also has a close link to nature. Tribes worship trees during this festival as they are a source of livelihood, And they pray to mother nature to keep their farmlands green and ensure a rich harvest.
This festival is vibrant, Intresting and a lovely sight.
